Our Story
Since the mid-1800’s we are the 6th generation of the Peters family to farm and raise cattle in Jackson County, Iowa. Our mission is to provide food and fiber for our neighbors while taking care of the land and livestock entrusted to us.
We will be good stewards of our resources and leave them better for the next generation. They are considered a gift to be cherished and looked after. Our small effort along with our fellow cattlemen can make a difference in the lives of many by producing quality food and fiber for the world.
We are blessed to be able to share a glimpse of our operation with you.
Philosophy
The bred heifer business is, without a doubt, a long-term venture. We gain a little more appreciation and respect for this each year – don’t get too high with the highs or too low with the lows. We haven’t followed the “in and out” or “depends on the market” approach. Our thought has been to focus on three areas in producing bred heifers that become long-term cows in the herd:
Longevity – grass and forage based, sound feet and legs, “built-in” body condition and maternal desire.
Convenience – quiet and easy to be around, quality teats and udder, sensible size.
Performance – calve, nurse and mother with no drama, grow and gain fast and efficiently, timely re-breeding.
We are confident that if our heifers do well in these three areas, they will have the greatest chance to be around in the cowherd for an extended time.
